- Paid content is digital media consumption as it should be? This whole model sounds like DRM and vendor lock-in, exactly like everyone else. Nothing new here except the toy is shinier. Woo-hoo!
- I don't deny the iPad is a rockin' unit. I deny utter control of the provider over content, as in, if they decide in month I shouldn't watch that content I "bought", then they simply remotely turn off my ability to play it, and I'm S.O.L. If that's how digital media "should" be consumed, then that's what the sheeple will get. Sadly so will I.
- Perhaps that isn't what's being said, but it sure sounds like it, and everyone going out and getting spiffy new iPads, because they are cool, will support that model fully with each one sold. I see only one more nail the coffin of yet another freedom we used to enjoy.

I agree with respect to causes in general, but definitely shy away from any association with the "get rich quick" shallow brigade that we've seen swarm onto Twitter in the last year or two.

Community + Cause = Long Term Engagement/Short Term Cash may be a n dimensional view?

Ron, I hear you. While I in now way want to go on the defense for Jim Atchison, I would like to point out that we all deal with stress in different ways. Some people shut down and become sombre, others seem to pull on an inner happy gland and bounce through it.

Jeremy, an interesting comment - trolls are usually not high profile. Jason has responded:

"... I'm shocked at @seaworld's behavior + I sympathize with the orca + family"

He continues to tweet his point of view.

I find the CEO's demeanor disgraceful. Rather than being solemn out of respect for the trainer and her family, he sounded like a cheerleader at a celebratory gathering. The tone of his voice was cheerful and upbeat -- totally inappropriate. You may refer to that as astute PR, but I find it horrifying.

Rand,

Dig a little deeper and you'll see that Jason has been engaging in baiting through some pretty distasteful posts. Case in point (http://twitter.com/Jason/status/9635702595) - "THE QUESTION ON EVERYONE'S MIND: Did the Sea World trainer killed yesterday get what she deserved?: http://bit.ly/doH4LW".

Dig down into this posts comments and you'll see that he is trying to frame this as a legitimate conversation starter. But what you'll also see is that most of his readers feel is was completely self-serving and in bad taste.

So the real question is not if SeaWorld has failed by not engaging Jason Calacanis because he is famous (he'll say yes, but that's just Jason), but should brands be expected to engage Trolls just because they are famous?
