Curation: The Barometer of ‘Wow’

On February 15, 2010, in innovations, by Rand Leeb-du Toit

Maria Popova, from Brain Pickings, which has the great byline of curating eclectic interestingness from culture’s collective brain, has an extremely interesting interview with CurrentTV founding hosts Max Lugavere and Jason Silva.

The key focus of this discussion is on curation and there are some absolute nuggets, for example true curation is the lovechild of great design, framing and fascinating information.

They see curation as being the barometer of ‘wow’, and as such each of us has the responsibility to act as a lens and lend focus to the content and the ideas that will enrich the world and elicit our sense of wonder.

I totally agree with this assertion, especially for people who are fonts of knowledge, and who find themselves regularly curating content.

In addition, within the enterprise framework  I believe there is a huge demand for curation and this is an area that we at Seggr are focused on. Anyone who is inundated with a torrent of e-mails, RSS feeds and other unfiltered information,  would breathe a sigh of relief when accessing ‘wow’ content.

Good curators have an innate ability to be easily moved, enthralled and inspired by content that is magnificently curious. They have their eyes unusually peeled and the best of them never fail to find spine tingling content.

As they say, “I’m pretty psyched for the future.”
