A few people will know that lately we have been recruiting and building the ‘a team’ at seggr, and are excited by the talent that we have met with so far.
There has definitely been a consistent theme of people who have left employers recently, or looking to leave their employer in search of a more Connected, Interactive, Creative and Sharing environment…(we spoke about building the social enterprise and how people get their CICS at the recent Talent2 Conference in Victoria).
For us, this highlights the increasing shift toward a more entrepreneurial workforce; a workforce that is becoming increasingly demanding about the environment where they choose to spend most of their waking day!
What is especially promising, is the number of established and influential brands that have already identified this shift, and are catering to it with such initiatives as the Pepsi Refresh Project - where Pepsi is pledging to donate more than $1 million in February alone to social causes and community projects nominated and selected in a vote by fans. Pepsi is committing about $20 million in donations through the end of this year, with a new round of voting each month.
And Pepsi are not alone. The Small Business Trends post on ‘New Competitions’ highlights that there are many more big brands running similar campaigns to encourage and support the ‘next big thing’ and ideas that can change the world for the better!
Apart from the efforts by the Australian Council for the Arts with the Geeks in Residence Program, and the Digital Culture Fund, or the Queensland Governments Catalysts and Residents Program (which are all Government programs), there does not seem to be much activity in this area from Australian businesses? With many of these programs focused on the United States and Europe, we figured that an Australian business needs to initiate a similar program to help encourage thinkers and doers around the world to make a difference.
So, we have decided to launch our ‘Entrepreneur in Residence’ and ‘Creative in Residence’ programs to help uncover some of the best and brightest from around the world (you do not need to be in Australia to participate in the Seggr In Residence Program)
